A Lesson In Manifesting

Like many people, during Covid, I bought a dog. Not just any dog. I bought a West Highland Terrier named Wilfrid. It was the exact dog I wanted, and I wasn’t going to accept anything else. At first my family was very resistant, but after my continuous conversation about it, they finally conceded. It took 6 months for our Westie to arrive, but he was worth the wait. Over the past 3 years, Willy has become such an important part of our family. He has brought us so much joy, that my whole family is happy that Mom got her way!

There’s an important lesson in this. And if it’s not obvious to you, here’s a little story about a young girl named Sarah.

Sarah wanted a puppy so badly. She asked her father repeatedly, only to hear the same answer, “No!” So she decided to visualize that she had her puppy. She would take him for walks, and she even put out a water dish for him.

After bumping into the dish several times, her dad finally asked what was going on. So she told him about her imaginary dog, describing his physical features, right down to the last detail. He was a Malamute, just like Sarah had seen on TV, with green eyes, white paws and friendly personality. She even described how he had a white patch on his forehead that made him unique.

Listening with patience and attentiveness, her dad acknowledged her. Although incredibly sweet, still he strongly assured her that the answer was still “No!”

“Well,” she said, “okay, but anyway, wouldn’t it be fun to go to a pet store and just pet a dog? Surely you would agree to that?” So her dad took her. And what did they find there, but a Malamute, with green eyes, white paws, and even the white spot on the forehead; the exact description of Sarah’s imaginary dog. So what do you think happened next? Of course it did, and the story finishes itself.

This, my friends, is such a wonderful example of how we manifest what we want and need. We make it come alive by visualization and by never letting go of the dream.

As for my own story, there’s a part two. Lately I’ve been thinking about a little brother for Willy. I shared the story of Sarah with my family, who by the way, is adamant about not having a second dog. Sheepishly, my husband responded….”So am I going to start seeing another dog dish on the floor?”

Hmmm….another Westie? Or maybe a Labradoodle!

The moral of the story? What is it that you want or need to manifest? Are you visualizing it clearly and strongly enough? Or will you give up too soon? It’s in your hands!

Yours in wellness,

 Elisabeth
