Recently, I attended an inspirational seminar from an Olympic coach on the topic of Mental Toughness. He started off with the question “Do your dreams scare you?” He wasn’t referring to nightmares, rather, the question could have been rephrased: “How fearless are you? Are you putting yourself out there enough?”
Now I could totally relate to this. With two spas and a planned expansion on the horizon, not to mention a global pandemic overshadowing the world, my mind went to the vastness of the responsibility on my shoulders. As a business-woman, I’ve always pushed my fears to the side. But there I sat, feeling raw. Then came the lightbulb, and the powerful thought: “Yes, my dreams scare me, and isn’t it absolutely awesome!” I felt a wave of courage for the future, and a firm belief that if I went out on a limb my success was inevitable!
The message is this: Winners have a success mentality that spills over into every part of their lives. Here are a few introspective questions to see how you score.
· When a challenge arises, are you quick to identify who’s to blame, or is your knee-jerk reaction to starting thinking of possible solutions?
· When you’re not playing your A-game, do you slump into “defeat” or do you kick into higher gear to get back your “A”?
· Do you start your day with “Today I’m going to make the world a better place”?
· Are you okay with the status quo, or do you strive to be “extraordinary”?
· Are you committed some of the time, most of the time, or all of the time?
· Do your dreams scare you enough? If not, maybe it’s time to review them.
· When are you going to show the world who you are and how talented you are?
We’ve all had to face our fears during this time of social restriction. So what a perfect opportunity to take your thoughts out onto the limb, with courage and conviction, knowing your success too, is inevitable!
