Something Wonderful for the Holidays

A Holiday Message from rnr Wellness

Holiday Message

We recently had our rnr staff holiday party for 2024. It’s very powerful to get together as a team outside of work. Bonds are made and friendships solidified. The fact is, when we like each other, we support each other, and everything ends up flowing with ease.

Well, each year at our party, we announce (or expand on) our theme for the upcoming year. For the past few years we’ve had the same theme: Be a Best Supporting Actor. What does this mean?

We are all starring in our own drama called “life”.  As life sends us curve balls, we may not always act with the utmost kindness or understanding to others. Why? Because sometimes we get so focused on our own starring role that we forget that everyone else is also a starring actor in their own life and we are the supporting actor in their life movie. Powerful, right?

So the self-reflection: Take stock of all the people in your life and introspect about each. Think: What kind of supporting actor am I? What kind of supporting actor do I want to be?

At the spa we choose to be a Best Supporting Actor to all. And that has been our theme these past few years. But we expand on it each year. So this year here’s what we decided. I’ll explain it in the form of a story.

A man wanted to improve his relationship with his wife. He thought to himself “If we keep communicating and behaving with each other in the same way each day, we will keep getting the same result!” Einstein even pegged this as the definition of insanity!

So he thought he’d shake things up. One morning he woke up and said “Honey, what can I do to make your day wonderful?”

This took her by surprise as it was out of character for her husband. So she looked at him with skepticism, thinking “He must want something!” And brushed it off.

The next day he tried again, “Honey, what can I do to make your day wonderful?”

Still she couldn’t shake the skepticism. So she remained silent and pretended she didn’t hear him.

The next day came, and again the man asked the same question. This time his wife thought, and replied “There IS something you could do for me actually that would be super helpful”. And so he did that thing for her.

And he continued each day with the same question, day after day, and his wife’s list of requests got longer and longer! But he continued to cheerfully do those things he knew would make her day wonderful. He was very sincere about changing himself and the way he approached the relationship.

Well something wonderful happened. The next day his wife woke up and asked him, “Honey, what can I do to make your life wonderful today?”

Wow. Love changes people. And more than that, love in action changes people.

No one knows us like our spouse, our family, our friends, our colleagues. They know our good and bad qualities, sometimes better than WE do.  When we see something we don’t like, what is the first inclination to do? Criticize? Try to change them? Or do we reach out with “love in action” and try to make their day wonderful?

So there you have it. Our rnr theme or motto for the year. It’s a good one, isn’t it.

Do you have a motto or theme for the upcoming year? If not, why not choose one. Or give ours a try. You’ll see what love can do.

Happy holidays to you!

With love,

The RNR Team
