As I write this, I celebrate the opening of RNR’s doors to guests for the first time, 20 years ago. I find myself reminiscing and remembering some things I learned over the years that I feel are worthy of sharing.
Before opening the Spa, oddly, I had never worked in a Spa before. So at the time I hired a Spa Consultant who taught me the basics of Spa Management. The rest I had to figure out myself. I had been a restaurateur for years so entrepreneurship wasn’t new to me. But Spas were. Anyway, my training in Holistic Healing and passion for success led the way and I’ve never turned back.
In the 20 year journey, I’ve had many teachers. As they say “hire people better than you”. Well, I had a Spa Director 15 years ago who taught me so much. I will always be grateful for how she helped me take my business to the next level.
I haven’t worked with her in over a decade but we connect from time to time, and I heard from her just recently. She’s a single mom now; having adopted a beautiful little boy; and is happy beyond her imagination.
She shared with me that apparently I taught her some things too. Recently her son came home saying “Mom, I had a bad day” and she corrected him saying “No honey, you had a bad moment on a good day…now tell me about it.”
Now when he has an accident at the potty or breaks a toy, he corrects himself from “bad day, Mommy” to “bad moment in a good day, Mommy.”
My old friend confided that I used to correct her in the same way. I don’t remember exactly, but it is indeed something I do when inspired to help someone I sense is receptive.
So we both said thank you to each other. Soul sisters. And this is the beauty of life. We come together for a reason and we help one another. Each of us has something to teach the other.
So the next time your day seems to be going wrong, don’t write it off as a bad day. Instead, dust yourself off and chalk it up to a bad moment on a very good and sacred day. And hey, then inspire someone else to do the same!
And as you envision this new year, what a great motto to consider. Although I’m sure it will have its own unique ups and downs, I’ve already decided that 2025 will be the best year yet. Please join me in this powerful intention.
On that note, I wish for you, a very happy and prosperous new year!
Yours in wellness,
Elisabeth
