A good friend of mine recently shared a story that made me laugh—and then made me think. He is someone I deeply admire for his unwavering commitment to his morning routine. Every single day, he wakes up at 5:55 AM and hits the gym. But after a few weeks, he noticed something uncanny: his experience was a precise carbon copy of the day before.
Every morning at the exact same minute, he turns the corner to see the same woman sitting on the same bench, opening her gym bag. He glances at the pool and sees the back of the exact same head resting in the hot tub. As he wraps up his workout and heads to the locker room, he passes the same man walking down the hallway in the opposite direction.
Incredible consistency. It was, quite literally, his own personal Groundhog Day.
When we talked about it, we couldn’t help but reflect on how much our own lives mirror that movie. Aren’t most of our days built on these hidden loops? We wake up, follow our familiar tracks, and let habit take the wheel. But it raised a bigger question: Are we truly aware of the repetition? And if we are, how can we use it to grow bigger, better, stronger, wiser…happier?
Looking at my own life recently, I realized my daily rhythm had drifted over the summer—especially my spiritual routine, which is the absolute bedrock of my happiness and peace.
So, I made a choice to reclaim it. This morning, my internal alarm went off early. Before touching my phone or making my favorite matcha latte, I went straight to my meditation seat. Sitting there, in the quiet of the morning, I felt a deep sense of alignment wash over me. It felt right. It felt like coming home to myself.
As September approaches and summer shifts into autumn, we enter a natural season of reset. As the kids head back to school, the universe hands us a fresh page. It is so easy to get swallowed up by the endless merry-go-round of family schedules, endless errands, and managing every tiny detail of daily life.
This month, I invite you to take a gentle step back and look at your routine through fresh eyes.
- Is your current rhythm nourishing you, or just keeping you busy?
- Is it time to restore an old ritual that brought you peace, or create a brand-new one?
- If today were Groundhog Day and you were gifted the chance to relive it, what would you choose to see or do differently?
Sometimes, all it takes is a shift in awareness to turn a mundane loop into a sacred practice. When we bring intention to our habits, we don’t just repeat our days—we transform them.
Yours in wellness,
Elisabeth
