Reiki is an ancient and sacred form of natural, hands-on healing. The awareness that an unseen energy flows through all living things and directly affects the quality of a person’s health has been part of the wisdom of many cultures since ancient times. This life energy is called Chi or Prana. All negative or dis-harmonious thoughts or feelings will cause a disruption in the flow of Chi.

Modern Reiki was developed in Japan in 1922 by Mikao Usui. It was brought to the west in 1937 by Mrs. Hawayo Takata. Millions of people have received and benefitted from Reiki since.

A treatment feels like a beautiful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person; the body, emotions, mind, and spirit, creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security, and wellbeing. Reiki allows muscles to relax and increases blood circulation.

It works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

Reiki helps relieve pain and supports physical body healing. It works to restore balance on the deepest possible level. It encourages your system to improve your body’s vital functions (breathing, digesting, and sleeping) so your physical systems function optimally.

The energy flows from the practitioners’ hands and into the client’s body and energy field; A session can last between 45 minutes and an hour, but shorter and longer sessions are also possible. Other modalities such as Aromatherapy, visualization, or massage can be blended into a Reiki session to benefit the healing session for the client. Often the use of crystals, sound and colors are added to deepen the relaxation and spiritual experience.

While Reiki is not a religion, it is still important to live and act to promote harmony with others. Mikao Usui, the Reiki system of natural healing, recommended that pure ethical ideals encourage peace and harmony.

The ability to use Reiki is passed on during an attunement given by a Reiki master. It allows the student to tap into that unlimited supply of life force energy. Reiki, I and II classes are available to learn how to give Reiki sessions.

This non-invasive, gentle healing technique is becoming more and more popular. As western medicine continues to explore alternative healing methods, Reiki is destined to play an essential role as an accepted and valued healing practice.
